How 5 large NCAA Football Teams their fascinating names

What is in a football team name? Throughout the NCAA football season we constantly hear the names of different teams if we look at games, learning scores, and our college fantasy football squads manage. We believe, however, rarely about the origin of various schools names. Here are some of the fascinating stories about some NCAA schools names:


1. Alabama Crimson Tide


In the history of the NCAA football, Alabama has become one of the most successful teams. However, have you ever wondered about the history of the team's name? Newspapers originally called the football name "Crimson White." This hinted at the school colors. Later, the "thin red line." However, in a game of 1907 between Alabama and Auburn, the two teams fought in a sea of red mud. So, Alabama was the "Crimson Tide."


2. Penn State Nittany Lions


We are familiar with mountain Lions, but what is the meaning of the Penn State nittany "Lions? It all started with a Penn State graduate named H.D. (Joe) Mason.


Mason was inspired after seeing a live Tiger on the Princeton campus. Penn State sponsored a newspaper then Mason's quest to choose a mascot for Penn State. The school eventually chose a lion, and it is very likely the first college to have a lion as its mascot. The "Nittany" refers to the location of the school at the foot of Mount Nittany. According to local native American legend was Nittany (also Nita no) an American Indian princess.


3. Arkansas Panthers


Before they were the Panthers, was Arkansas Cardinals. Students selected the mascot, thanks to the school of Cardinal and white colors. The name "Panthers" originated from a speech that the first paid Arkansas football coach, Hugo Bezdek, to students of Arkansas. Bezdek gave the talk after the seventh victory of the school during the season. He noted that the team had played as a "wild band of Razorback Hogs." The rest, as they say, history. From 1910, Arkansas had a new mascot: The Panthers.


4. Oklahoma Sooners


Oklahoma is known for playing on the gridiron. However, have you ever wondered what exactly a previously?
