March Madness-the NCAA fight to the Top

Each year, the top college basketball teams facing each other for the Championship series called "March Madness." In the course of four weeks, all NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association) Division 1 teams face off to determine who is the best. The play was nicknamed March Madness due to the single game elimination set-up.
The last four men games are some of the most popular NCAA play at national level, and even the women's series in recent years become popular. (Final viewers jump when the game was moved to the day after the final of the men in 2003).


How teams make it to March Madness? There are small differences between men and women, but both bids are decided on the basis of the team rankings, win-loss records and RPI (Rating Percentage Index) data. (Regional) Conference tournament champion teams get automatic bids. Because Ivy League schools do not have a post season, the team receives that had the best ranking in the regular season the bid.


There is 1 more offer in men's basketball (65-64 teams to participate). Men's games are broadcast on CBS, women on ESPN. Teams are seeded 1-16 and play the team at the other end of the spectrum. # 1 plays # 16, # 2 plays # 15, and so on. Although Cinderella stories of # 15 teams are has take # 2 teams in huge game upsets, a # 16 team never won in the first round.


After the first week of games go teams the Sweet Sixteen regional semi-finals, the Elite Eight finals, and then click the last four games, with the top teams of each region go head to head. Who plays whom by a re-seeding prior to the national semifinals decided is to prevent two # 1 teams meeting in semi-finished products.
